State Representative Cindy Abrams announced that the Ohio House of Representatives has passed legislation to establish Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care (PPEC) centers in the state. The bill, supported by both parties, was co-sponsored by State Representative Rachel Baker.

PPEC centers are community-based daycare facilities that provide early childhood education for children with complex medical needs. These centers employ a medical director, nurses for routine and emergency care, and teachers who develop tailored lesson plans and activities.

According to the new legislation, children can access PPEC programs through referrals from licensed providers. Eligible children must be medically or technologically dependent and medically stable before starting PPEC services.

"This bill is a win-win for children with complex medical needs, their families, and our communities to ensure proper and accessible early childhood education for children with complex medical conditions," said Abrams. "These centers will provide peace of mind for families to know that their children are receiving safe educational experiences."

House Bill 141 will now proceed to the Ohio Senate for further consideration.
