Retirement of Lt. Richard Neumann

A

Today we bid farewell and happy retirement to Lt. Richard Neumann after 31 years of distinguished service to the citizens of Springdale.  Below is his final broadcast which describes a small portion of what he has given to his community and his country.  Congratulations and all the best to you LT!

“This is the final salute for Lt. Richard Neumann of the Springdale Police Department, who is retiring after 31 years of dedicated service. He has spent his life in service to his Country and this community. We are drawn to public safety through an inner yearning to serve our fellow man through our own desire to give of ourselves. Public service is truly a “calling”.

Rick spent a 6 year tour in the United States Coast Guard as a Boatswain 3rd Class.  His duty stations varied from active duty service in the Hampton’s of New York at Station Shinnecock and Governor’s Island, serving on the cutter “Dallas” to his reserve duty at the Anderson Ferry Station in Cincinnati, patrolling the Ohio River.

Lt. Neumann started as a patrol officer with Springdale PD November of 1991. Rick was an original member of the Springdale Police Honor Guard when it was founded in 1993 and served on that unit for much of his career.

Rick was assigned as the full time DARE Officer in 1995 working with the Princeton School District in both Elementary and Junior High settings. He served in that capacity until his 1998 promotion to sergeant.

Rick was a role model for young people even before his DARE assignment as an Assistant Advisor for the Springdale Police Explorer Program and then assumed the position of Lead Advisor until the program’s conclusion in 2008.

Lt. Neumann attended some of Ohio and the Nation’s top police leadership schools including the Police Executive Leadership College, became a Certified Law Enforcement Executive and the FBI National Academy in Quantico, where he remains active with the Ohio FBINAA chapter.

Rick has three sons and two daughters and is married to his devoted wife, Melanie. Rick is the consummate family man, traveling often with his own family and engaging in a variety of adventures with his extended family.

Public safety work becomes part of our blood, a part of who we are. But family comes first and we know that because of that strong relationship, he will enjoy his well-deserved retirement earned from the fruits of his dedicated work.

From your entire Springdale family, we wish you good health and a great future as you embark on this next chapter of your life”
