State Senator Louis W. Blessing, III announced that Hamilton County will receive $11.9 million for brownfield remediation projects. The funding aims to transform properties requiring clean-up into valuable community assets.
"This funding will support turning properties in need of clean-up into rich parts of our county's growth and development," Blessing stated. "I am glad many of these projects will contribute to our housing needs, new jobs and businesses, and recreation opportunities for residents."
The projects include several key sites:
- At 2001-2009 Auburn Ave, $580,952 will be allocated for asbestos abatement and the demolition of two vacant commercial buildings. This site is set to become a seven-story mixed-use building featuring housing, commerce, and a parking garage.
- On Burnet Avenue Blocks 1A and 2, $1,806,732 will address soil and groundwater contaminants. The area will be redeveloped into a mixed-use space with housing, retail, office areas, green spaces, and is expected to create 500 new jobs.
- The West Fork Incinerator project involves $5,052,818 for the demolition of a decommissioned incinerator containing hazardous materials. This site is part of the Mill Creek Greenway project supporting Cincinnati's CROWN master plan for an extensive trail network.
- For the former US Printing Building at 4500 Beech Street in Norwood, $1,801,600 is earmarked for waste removal and abatement efforts. It will become part of the Factory 52 mixed-use project contributing over $250 million in economic investment.
- Section Avenue on the Lateral will see $2,668,000 for remediation at the former American Laundry Machine Company site in Norwood aimed at future development.
This initiative is part of the Ohio Brownfield Remediation Program funded through House Bill 33. Since its launch in 2021 under this program has awarded more than $636 million across 626 projects in 86 counties.
