The Harrison Fire Department has some tips when it comes to cleaning out your fireplace. Dispose of ashes properly to avoid accidental fires!

-Allow the fireplace to cool down before removing ashes.

-Use a metal scoop to place ashes in a metal container.

-Never put ashes directly in a plastic garbage can.

-Store the ashes outside, at least 10 feet from your house or any other structure.

-Soak ashes with water or snow and wait several days before disposing of them.
