MEMORIAL DAY PARADE AND CEREMONY PLANNED

A10

A longstanding local tradition of remembering the men and women who courageously gave their lives in service to our country will continue May 30, 2022 with the Harrison Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony.

The parade will begin at 10 a.m. at Harrison Elementary (600 E. Broadway) and proceed west on Broadway, north on State Street and east on Harrison Avenue to Hill Street. The parade will end at Glenhaven Cemetary, where a ceremony will take place.

The ceremony includes placement of poppies, recitation of "In Flander's Fields" by Phyllis Wolf, a 21-Gun Salute and Taps performed by the Harrison Honor Guard. Harrison Mayor Neyer will bring greetings and American Legion Fourth District Commander Jerry Perry will be the guest speaker.

Additional instrumentals will be performed by Harrison High School Marching Band.

This event is organized by Harrison Memorial Association, a joint effort of Yeager-Benson Memorial American Legion Post 199, Amvets Post 13 and VFW Post 7570.

Anyone who would like to participate in the parade should be at the elementary school at 9:30 a.m.

In observance of Memorial Day, City offices and the Harrison Community Center are closed Monday (May 30, 2021).
