The City of Harrison Police Department’s new vehicle will enable school resource officers to maneuver easily and quickly on school grounds.
The new public safety vehicle was unveiled Jan. 25 following successful fundraising efforts that began in 2020. Purchasing the $43,000 John Deere XUV crossover vehicle was made possible through donations by private citizens, local businesses and civic organizations. The Police Department recognizes JTM Food Group, 1860 Taproom & Bottleshop, F&M MAFCO, DTR5 Investments LLC, Coatings Systems Inc., American Legion #199, Moose Lodge #2633, Carol Wiwi, Deborah Herbig-Angel, Bud Herbert Motors and John Deere I.A.S. International Automated Systems as contributors.
The City of Harrison Police Department includes three officers dedicated to protecting and serving the community's youngest citizens at local schools. School Resource Officers Jennifer Coyle, Jamie Bastin and Nick Lutterbie perform a variety of duties and are cross-trained to serve at local school buildings. It's not unusual to see the officers greeting students as they arrive, directing traffic and coordinating safety drills, but these are just some of their responsibilities.
